Smoke Free Legislation Advocacy
Posted 15 days ago by Katherine Ann Hayes in Safety
It has come to our attention that HB 93 Protection from Surgical Smoke has been placed on the agenda of a House subcommittee-Healthcare Facility and Systems.
The bill is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 1pm in the State House in Tallahassee. If you are able to go to the capital and be available to support the effort of our lobbyists and team, and to possibly give a brief testimony, please contact Sandy Falk (orswf@aol.com) or Anthony Silva (anthony.john.silva@gmail.com) who can offer some guidance on what to expect.
In the meantime, below are the names of the representatives who sit on that committee. If you live in one of their districts, please write, email, call or visit their offices to educate them on the dangers of surgical smoke if necessary and encourage them to vote in favor of the bill passing through their sub-committee. If you need to learn how to contact your rep, you can find all the information online (https://ddec1-0-en-ctp.trendmicro.com:443/wis/clicktime/v1/query?url=www.flhouse.gov&umid=9adcf187-5c49-47bd-b705-0403bb4ad285&rct=1764024906&auth=97fad1ab76126251d3eed843752929f8915193a6-a8c94d0b35b50d5b34adc1704289b501699ce263)

This is our year. We can get this done in 2026 and join the twenty other states that have passed similar legislation to protect our patients, our colleagues and our fellow nurses.
